Hallas was born to wander. At a young age, he left his glade in Siragalë and wandered through Eriador. Eventually, he came to Imladris and remained for many years. He had always been in the habit of singing while walking, but in the House of Elrond he came to love the power of song and began to learn all the verses he could. It was there that he met Idril and the two fell in love. After they wed, he felt the old wanderlust come upon him again and convinced Idril to see the world with him. They visited many lands and peoples, but their story ended tragically: While returning to see his glade-lord, Súlor, in Siragalë they were waylaid and captured by Night-hunters. Brought to their lair under the marshlands near Stock, Hallas was forced to watch while the Night-hunters first tortured Idril, then hung her by her feet and slit her throat.
