The Lord of the Rings: Shadow of the East
A secret cabal composed of six of the Master Smiths of Khazad-dûm. Their symbol is an anvil and hammer amidst a sunburst. The leader in T.A. 1640 was Vidar Warmetal.
The name translates as “Great Smiths of the Sun” in Westron. Originally, the cabal was conceived to allow the highly competitive artificer septs of the Longbeard clan to put aside rivalries and share techniques for the betterment of the Clan. Unfortunately, their quest for greater knowledge led them onto darker paths. By T.A. 1640, the Kíz Mahal had somehow obtained a device of Sauronic design with the capability to trap spirits within Arda. They justified its usage as a way to keep Dwarven design secrets from being lost to history, but soon put it to use for their own gain.
The Kíz Mahal were exposed by Prince Thelor Ironfist, Azagri, and Durgan Irongate in the winter of T.A. 1640. Vidar Warmetal was executed for treason and sorcery. The remaining five, their families, and descendants were exiled from Khazad-dûm forever.
